Graz, Austria

After a two week hiatus forced upon me by a heavy first couple of weeks of school, I am back!

On Friday, we left in the wee hours of the morning to catch an early bus to make the most of our day in Graz. After a bit of a struggle to find our bus, we were on our way to this beautiful city! Our first stop was to get breakfast. We walked around until we found a nice café that was part of the Kunsthaus Museum. The service was really great (which was a shock for us since waiters in Austria have been a little cold). All the options sounded delicious, but we settled on Eggs Benedict and the Guggenheim. Guess which one's which:

Once we were no longer hangry, we made our way to a lookout point from which you can see the entire city. The hike was rough (ok it wasn't that bad; I'm just out of shape), but the view was worth it! We could see everything, and we got a close up view of the original clock tower for the city.

Beautiful, isn't it?? We spent a while just enjoying the view (and me recovering from a fall down the very slippery stairs to this overlook) before we continued with our walk through the city. We didn't have much of a plan, just a few landmarks along the way. We attempted to find the castle, but as hard as we tried we just couldn't find it. But we did end up with some beautiful scenery on our hike!

We eventually gave up and went into the Kunsthaus Museum to look at the modern art and then made our way back across the river to the old part of Graz.

As you can see, fall is alive and well! As a Texan, this is so exciting because I've never been able to experience a real autumn with the brisk weather and colorful trees. Add a bright blue sky as the canvas and you've got yourself a natural masterpiece!

At this point, we were hungry again so we found another small restaurant tucked away in the side streets between equally quaint shops. As this city is so close to Italy, we decided to honor the Italian roots of Graz and ate some pasta. It was soooo good, especially paired with the local sturm!

With our energy restored, we wandered along to the main city center that was declared a world heritage sight. You can easily see why:

We spent the rest of our day sightseeing, stopping at the local food stalls, eating gelato, and sipping on wine until it was time to go home. A slow and carefree day to end a hectic week!
